All things considered, the pioneer behind the modern computer has been relatively quiet in the area of new developments. Microsoft sat idly by while Apple took over the portable music player market by storm with the iPod. Sure, they produced the Zune, but it came across as more of a rebuttal (and an inferior one, thus far) to Cupertino’s intuitive and inventive statement. But while the rumour mill has been churning out flyers for the mythical Apple tablet for the better part of a year, a video has ...

Set-top boxes are slowly but surely picking up headlines space and garnering media attention, especially as more and more video content is being delivered over the net. As their popularity grows, new versions begin to emerge, the most interesting of them being the All-in-One variety, which the Netgear’s Digital Entertainer claims to be. In essence, these multi-faceted miniature boxes strive to replace the media functionality of a PC without the monitor. That being said, the biggest hurdle to overcome is matching the functionality without approaching the same ...

Steve Jobs and Co. recently hosted a formal event called “It’s Only Rock and Roll,” a title that may have been an attempt to dissuade those Apple Tablet enthusiasts from being overly anxious and ultimately disappointed. Nevertheless, Apple unveiled some interesting product updates, including a new Nano and the latest rendition of iTunes.

The New Nano

The most recent Nano update saw an aesthetic overhaul that revitalized the product line, so this time around the upgrades are understandably ...

A five seat compact from Honda is making a strong bid for your hybrid dollars and thanks to an innovative new design it’ll take fewer of those dollars to get you behind the wheel. The comparatively smaller price tag attached to the new Honda Insight is due, in no small part, to the automakers proprietary Integrated Motor Assist technology, which not only simplifies the design but reduces costs. Add to that a more efficient engine (the heat engine’s cylinders are designed to disengage when the vehicle is at a constant speed on a level surface). But the ultimate question in ...

Years of hype. Countless rumours. Dozens of mock-ups. Yes, the rumoured Apple tablet has garnered quite a lot of attention for a product that may or may not even exist. But Always Innovating has a much more tangible option in its Touch Book. While not a tablet by definition, it’s a netbook that detaches from its keyboard dock, it may just feature the right mix of functionality and portability you could want from the rumoured Cupertino release but it’s already in the beta stages and nearing its release.

The Touch Book first appeared back in March where Always Innovating ...

7-inch touch screen. 3G connectivity. Sony’s eBook reader has matured into a more robust competitor to rival Amazon and their prodigy Kindle. Yesterday Sony announced the Reader Daily edition, a larger version to their eBook reader line-up that includes the Pocket ($199) and the Touch ($299). The Daily builds upon the later, increasing screen size and holding onto the touch interaction, bumping the price point to a robust $399. But will it be enough to unsettle the reigning champ?

In this bout of the digital books, ...

There’s a question buzzing around message boards and blogs: ‘How much longer can Cupertino keep it a secret?’ ‘It’ is of course the rumoured, whispered, oft-dreamed of Apple Tablet. As per usual speculation is running high about the next best thing from Apple. Except this time around the product itself is largely a product of speculation. Following the highly-successful release of the iPhone/iPod Touch and Apple’s ever growing contributions to the world of uber-thin laptops, it seemed only logical that the trend setting ...

Samsung’s Solar Cell Phone Blue Earth Gets Renamed, Still Not Released

Remember Samsung’s Blue Earth? It debuted back in February where it was revealed that it would sport a solar panel, an energy-reducing ‘Eco’ mode, in addition to being built in part from recycled plastic bottles. Well it has resurfaced and been officially dubbed in the only manner befitting cell phones. Say hello to the S7750 (catchy, ain’t it?). ...

It’s been a long and winding road to harmonize the wide world of the web with computers. Sure Microsoft was making browsers back in the early nineties, already rubbing shoulders with rivals. But with the proliferation of laptops and netbooks, the web has become, in many ways, the central modus operandi of the operating system. So it’s little wonder that Google, a company some may consider to be the Microsoft of the 21st century, is releasing an entire OS based around web integration.

Official word from Google: "Google Chrome OS ...
