Overview: The Show, as the W7900 is also
known, takes its name from the fact that while it’s a cell phone, it’s also a digital
projector! Capable of projecting images up to 50 inches (diagonally) is a
pretty amazing feat in a cell phone but to couple that with a 5-megapixel
camera and a digital TV tuner? Well, that’s just a recipe for success.

The Rundown:
With the Show you immediately apprehend its
sleek aesthetic and relatively compact size. If you were to stack it up against
an iPhone, they’d look roughly the same dimensions save the W7900 is thicker.
But that’s okay, because it’s packing a DLP projector at the butt end so that
you can watch stills or movies at a 480 x 320 resolution. The projected image
is surprisingly clean and kind of makes you wonder how devices have gone this
long without a projector!
The screen itself is crisp and clear and
oh-so sharp. The interface looks simple but seems to belie some robust features,
making use of Samsung’s widget-based OS. In fact, the whole device could be
summed up as the little phone that packs a lot of punch. A lot of smartphones
claim to ‘do it all’ but tend to rely on just one feature or technical achievement
*cough touch screen in their bid for handheld supremacy. With the W7900 Samsung
not only posits the digital projector as the ‘next best thing’ they back it up
with some substantial hardware.
Like the recently announced Palm Pre, the
Samsung Show is en route to market but without a definitive launch date. What
is known is that it will hit the shores of Asia first, possibly Korea. Given
the sheer firepower it’s hard to imagine this one staying abroad indefinitely.
