So, what’s new to Energizer’s Energi To Go portable device chargers? Well besides supporting a whole slew of
portable devices (PMPs, PNDs, MP3 Players, portable DVD players, cell phones, just to name a few) Energizer has also added a few new solar charging options to compliment what is already an expansive lineup. And in an apparent bid to buck the trend that
Energizer=expensive, a few of them are actually affordable to the average
consumer.
All in all there are 3 separate lines, each
with a target audience. The AP line, for instance, offers battery-life
extension for the iPhone in the form of a case-like shell (similar to the mophie’s JuicePack and Incase’s Power Slider). Two models are
available, with the lower-end being dubbed the AP1000 ($50) which provides 3 additional hours of talk time (or 16+hours of music). The AP1500
($100) bumps that number 5 additional hours.
Then there’s the XP line, which comes in 4 models, each
ranging in battery life extension and cost. At the high-end of the spectrum is the
XP4000 which provides 25 hours of additional talk time on a cell phone, 12 extra hours of music, 1500 more photos, etc. In fact, the XP line provides
battery extension for just about every portable electronic device under the
sun. But if you’re going to be under the sun, why not pick up an SP1000 ($50) or
SP2000 ($100) solar charger? Each pack requires a 6 hours of sunlight to fully charge (3 hours from an outlet)
and provides 500 charges. The difference between the two models is that the
SP1000 includes a flashlight and provides an 6 additional hours of talk time on
a cell phone while the SP2000 provides a robust 12 additional hours of talk time and includes
a solar tracking device to help locate the best charging locale. Compared with
the iPhone AP numbers, these seem like a no-brainer so long as you have a sunny
place to charge up.
All the charger come with a full compliment
of ‘tips’ that enable a myriad array of devices to be connected, with
additional tips available online for those more esoteric ports. The entire
brand will be out by the end of July but some models have already hit store
shelves.
