GA News Bulletin: A Globe spanning work of art, Mars gets landed, and Guitar Hero World Tour comes at a cost

The World’s Largest Drawing

How does one go about constructing the world’s most expansive piece of artwork? Well, the first thing you need is a GPS device and a shipping company. Next, you need a pompous sellout artist willing to use the opportunity to depict his own image across the globe, all in the name of marketing. That’s precisely what artist Erik Nordenakar and DHL courier service combined forces to do in shipping a package around the globe in a marketing ploy that saw a depiction of the artist traced by the shipping lines. The final product spanned all the continents (except Antartica…poor Antartica, always missing out on marketing ploys)

Space Nerds Rejoice: Mars Phoenix Lander lands landing!

Yesterday NASA’s Phoenix Lander touched down on the surface of Mars, doing so with near perfection. The Lander has been designed to do, among other things, collect surface soils, which will then be tested by the Lander itself, as well as conducting weather tests on the atmosphere of the red planet. The entire ordeal was webcasted on NASA TV and was followed up by some riveting post-landing discussion, involving miscues, general confusion over what the hell they were even talking about and a generally monotonous dialogue. Thankfully those NASA women and men are better mathematicians than on air personalities. That being said, the entire mission up to this point is being heralded as a flawless success!

Guitar Hero World Tour gets priced

Recently here on Gadget Addiction we discussed some specs for the latest iteration of the Guitar Hero franchise. Besides getting officially named World Tour, the formally titled Guitar Hero IV will come in several forms; the standalone game $59.99 (Xbox 360, PS3, $49.99 for Wii and PS2), Guitar Kit $99.99 (across all platforms) as well as a all-encompassing Band Kit. The kit will include a drum set (with cymbals, take that Rock Band, thank you very much), guitar, microphone, and the game itself for…drum roll please…$189.99 (Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, $179.99 PS2). At the heart of the matter however is the ongoing pissing contest between the two major franchises over instrumental compatibility. So if you want to take advantage of the new Guitar Hero song creation capabilities and you’re already a Rock Band owner, be prepared for clutter as you’re living room is about to look like the inside of a roadies’ van.
