Montreal mobility
And so it begins: the biker revolution. Montreal is set to launch the Public Bike System; a network of rentable cycles that users can take all over town and then simply return to the nearest station. Using credit, debit, or membership cards would-be ‘greeners’ can rent the RFID-tagged bikes, picking one up at the nearest docking station, which are themselves to be solar-powered.
Some bike highlights:
• Unique modern design
• Suitable for a wide range of riders
• Aluminum frame – light, strong and durable
• One-piece handlebar that covers and protects all components
• All cables and derailleur are covered for better protection
• Chain protector integrated into bike structure
o Protects chain
o Protects riders’ clothes from fouling chain
o Increases structural integrity of entire frame

Goog-411
So Google has conquered exploration of the web, the roads, the earth, the sky and now…sex shops? Well, to be fair, I could have said any business there, but got your attention didn’t I? This week Google launched its latest service in Canada: Goog-411. By dialling up 1-800-GOOG-411 users can ask the robotic slave on the other end for directions to the nearest pizza parlour, Tim Horton’s, or whatever your heart’s desire. After providing details to HAL as to province and city, users can either hear the phone number of the business they are seeking, be connected directly to the business, or be text messaged info on it. What’s more, you can even request to have the location sent to your phone via Google Maps.
As for Can-Con, Google claims that the virtual operator can recognize terms such as ‘eh,’ ‘Traw-na,’ and ‘aboot.’

The End is…un-CERNtain
Whether you have been listening or not, doom-sayers have been, well, doomsaying that firing up CERN’s Large Hadron Collider will, among other things, open a blackhole on the very planet’s surface, consuming all of existence. (I’m serious, there’s even been legal action taken by some fellow convinced this will happen). However, in a summary report recently released it was quite clearly explained why the odds are stacked against such an outcome: “The universe as a whole conducts more than 10 million million LHC-like experiments per second. The possibility of any dangerous consequences contradicts what astronomers see – stars and galaxies still exist.”
Either way we’ll know in 14 days!

[...] Bike sharing is another popular idea in college campuses and urban centers such as Montreal and Vancouver. By signing up to use a bike-sharing program you are given a membership card and able to bike to a designated docking station and leave it. Another program participant can then unlock it, take the bike and move on. Meanwhile other bikes will be left at the spot for you when you exit. Montreal has an added bonus of solar-powered electric bikes in use, making biking about as “green” as it can get. [...]
