May 2008 ![]() Word has it that researchers at Sumitomo Chemical and Mitsubishi Chemical are hard at work on a prototype substance that would have the property of an OLED screen but the consistency of something along the lines of paint. The notion here being that nearly any surface could be lathered up with some OLED cream and turned into an impromptu screen. And if your mind isn’t blown yet, the substance will also possess the ability to utilize solar energy in order to power itself. So, how many years would you wait for this product? Other products take as much as twenty years in development. Some only ten. But for one low, unbeatable price you could be painting away with this fantastic OLED cream in as little as 2 years! Icahn striving to have Yahoo accept Microsoft Bid Remember how Microsoft offered $47.5 billion for Yahoo Inc. and Yahoo turned around and said ‘Please, sir, can I have some more?’ Well it seems financier Carl Icahn is more than a little critical of Yahoo’s board of directors, who some might say acted like a bunch of yahoos (okay, sorry about that one…)Icahn has amassed 59 million shares in Yahoo and believes that Microsoft’s offer of $33 per share is more than reasonable. So in response to the rejection of the big payout, Ichan has assembled a 10-member dissident board set for election July 3rd at Yahoo’s annual meeting. Microsoft’s comment on the whole thing: “The company [Microsoft] has moved on.” This is turning into a nasty affair.
Console Round-up Ten million. That’s how many Xbox 360 consoles have been sold in the US, making Microsoft the first console manufacturer to reach that number of the big three. And while I’m sure Gates and Co. are quite smug about their success, I can only think of how many more jobs this is going to create. I mean, 10 million consoles, a substantial portion of which will die of the Red Ring within the next few years. Think of the job security people (especially with repaired consoles getting a 3 year warranty!) In other console news, Nintendo has been ordered to pay $21 million to Anascape for…Game Cube controller in fringement! Yes, the last-generation or old-generation of consoles still have some kicks in form of patent infringement. It seems that Anascape took issue with both Xbox and Game Cube controllers, claiming they utilized patented aspects. Microsoft settled their suit out of court. What you think? |
