Jul 2008 ![]() As recently reported, those folks over at the iPhone Dev Team have been hard at work on a jailbreaking procedure for the new 2.0 update and the iPhone 3G (unlocking the 3G is said to be a different story and will be forthcoming in the near future). While footage of the Pwnage Tool 2.0 jailbreaking a 3G iPhone has been circulating around the web for nearly a week now, all details related to the release of the software simply stated ‘soon.’ Well, soon was Saturday when the Dev Team made the Mac-only available for download. As depicted in the video the Pwnage Tool makes jailbreaking a pretty simply, point-and-click procedure. Too easy for you? Get Windows then. The folks over at iPhone Hacks have managed in a sort of long-winded manner, to jailbreak first generation iPhones running the 2.0 software. The process involves quote a bit of running around and what not, but if your serious about jailbreaking than it’s nothing you can’t handle. Holy Weekend Smash, Batman Early estimates have pegged the box office haul for The Dark Knight, the second Batman flick to be directed by Christopher Nolan and star Christian Bale, at $155.3 million. That makes for the biggest three day opening of all time, taking top honours from Spiderman 3 which grossed $151.1 million. It also stole top spot from the same film by scoring the largest opening day at $66.4 million, beating out Raimi’s third Spidey outing which pulled in $59.8 million on its first day. Other honours include best Friday midnight revenue ($18.5 million, over taking Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith's $16.9 million), as well as a new IMAX record ($6.2 million over Spiderman 3’s 4.7 million). (And yes, I’m acutely aware that the title of this post could have been better but nothing was coming to me…) Videogame industry still expanding While the Dark Knight was setting box office records, the game industry was revelling in its recent success. According to Reuters U.S. videogame hardware and software sales rose 53 percent in June from a year ago. Leading the Charge was Sony’s exclusive title Metal Gear Solid 4 which has also boosted PS3 sales. MGS4 took tope honours from Take-Two Interactive’s Grand Theft Auto IV which had been reigning supreme since its debut in April. This news echoes comments made at the recent E3 conference where developers noted that the industry has been shifting from its seasonal Christmas explosion to a year round business. Good news for game enthusiasts and those with b-days in the summer. What do you think? |
