GA News Bulletin: Torrentspy Gets Crushed, Stride Gum Loves Gamers/Movie Aficionados, and Webby's Person of the Year

How much does it cost to run a torrent site? Well, according to the Motion Picture Association of America (which, oddly enough, has the acronym GESTAPO) it’ll run you somewhere around $111 million. That’s the bill to pay for Valence Media, owner of TorrentSpy, the latest victim of the ‘we-will-destroy-you’ mentality at the Motion Picture Association of America. The allegations against TorrentSpy are that they facilitated the distribution of Hollywood movies. Why levy such a large fine you may ask? Simple. Hollywood is poor. People simply aren’t going to the movies anymore and turning a profit in such a market is a pipe dream.

In other news Iron Man raked in $102 million dollars in its opening weekend.

Stride Gum to defend Hollywood’s integrity

Right, speaking of quality, let’s turn to the disastrously terrible Uwe Boll and his penchant for cashing in on the videogame fanbase to further his pitifully career. Boll announced a few weeks ago that he would cease making terrible, terrible game-to-film adaptations if one million people signed a petition. Well, apparently that’s reached 250,000 and the numbers are still climbing.

However, in a bid to bolster the numbers, Stride (the ridiculously long lasting gum) will provide a free pack of gum to anyone who signs up on StopUweBoll.com.

Webby’s Proclaim their Person of the Year

Well, for all of stardom on the internet, one man, boisterous, outspoken, bear-fearing, took the title of Person of the Year. Yes, that’s right nation, the Webby’s have declared Stephen Colbert their number one presence on the net.

So what supports such a prestigious award? How about topping Google’s search of “Greatest Living American” with his website? Oh Colbert, when will you cease to amaze? Hopefully never…
