This week iTunes Replay makes an appearance, ancient DNA may hold the key to longer life, a new medium for comics, and more…

iTunes: Anywhere?

According to AppleInsider the
nearly-finished iTune Replay service is bringing movies on-demand, anywhere. The
Replay service will purportedly provide streaming of purchased movies and TV
shows on iTunes. This means no more lengthy download times, so you can watch
Mama Mia at the touch of a button (oh what a world!). Details are scant as to
what, if any, Apple devices will make use of the service (Apple TV seems like
the most logical, though streaming videos to the iPhone would be pretty nifty).
It’s believed that Replay will be a component of iTunes 8, so we won’t have to
wait for an entirely new version before we see the service.

Longer Life and Woolly Mammoths

Scientists unearthing Siberian Mammoths
from the permafrost have found ancient bacterium DNA still thriving. What’s
even more astounding, a truly worthy of a science-ficiton tale in and of
itself, is that when the mice are vaccinated with the bacterium extract they
exhibit increased mental alertness, physical activity, and sexual virility.
What’s more, the bacterium has actually been shown to increase life expectancy.
While the Japanese and Russian scientific teams who made the discovery are not
claiming eternal life, they do anticipate at least a ten year life extension.

Motion Comics

Here’s something you may not know; iTunes
sells comics. Several upstart companies have begun building up libraries of
iPhone/iPod Touch tweaked comics. The specially formatted comics display one
frame at a time, a move designed to embrace the small screen size. Well, in
another bid to embrace the medium Marvel Comics is preparing to launch a new
form of your favourite nerd literature: motion comics. These partially
animated, voice-acted comics ditch the speech bubbles and embrace a more
multimedia approach. The first Motion Comic to be released will be “Astonishing
X-Men #1-10” and is being ‘directed’ by John Cassady.
