Going Green this Easter

BY Steve | No Comments

Eggs and gadgets have a long and varied history dating back
to the first electric egg beater. Ever since then the two have been
inseparable. And so Easter is a very special time of year, combining the fun of
eggs with the awesomeness of gadgets. But it’s also an excellent time to
introduce some green resolutions. We’re just coming off Earth Hour and we’re
rapidly approaching Earth Day. So here’s some food for thought on going green
this Easter

Egg Carton Chandelier:

Households the world over will
be emptying out egg cartons in preparing those ornately decorated shells. But
what about all those leftover cartons? Sure you can recycle them, but whenever
possible it’s better to reuse. And so we have the egg carton light shade. The original
design was put forth by Federico Otero and it’s really rather simple, if a
little forced. Eitherway, it’s the perfect make-work project while you’re
avoiding your in-laws. Just don’t let your grandpa get the new eco lamp shade
confused with a paper wasp nest.

Keep that bunny going with…Rechargeable batteries: Easter is
becoming more and more commercialized as children dream of the Easter Bunny
borrowing Santa’s sac for a few days while he hops around the world supplanting
toys alongside treats into the livingrooms of millions. And what’s more, he doesn’t expect no milk and cookies
either, unlike the pudgy Claus. But whether you’re picking up a Tickle Me Elmo
or a remote control car, make sure you’re going with rechargeable batteries.
Not only have they made leaps and bounds in the longevity of their life cycles
but rechargeable batteries are also more affordable and recharge faster than
ever.

The Sweet Stuff: You may think it difficult to meld candy
and technology, but one do-it-yourselfer has managed to make a candied Apple of
a different sort. Using what looks like scrumptious bunny candy, the diorama
pictured above depicts a keynote speech given a rather robust looking Steve
Jobs. The level of detail, right down to the little white headphones on the
crowd, is worthy of praise
