Sarotech Brings Semi Class to External Hard Drives

If you are sick of having your external PC devices look like, well, devices, you just might want to check out Sarotech’s Wizplatz W-31 external hard drives. Sure, there is Western Digital’s line of My Book external drives, but those are not going to pass for anything but nicely designed plastic cases.

That’s not to say the Wizplat W-31 will pass for a real book, either. However, it’s quite a bit closer to resembling the real thing. Just have a look at that picture. They have more of the visual bells and whistles you find on actual books. The different colored spine and the little ridges on the spine and, uh…

Well, the spines are a very glossy, and, uh, very bright red. Then, the spine has those two ridges crossing it that light up when the drive is in its various states of activity. Clearly, these are visual features that will, uh…

Wow, the Wizplat (is it wrong to giggle every time that word is used?) W-31 isn’t that much more book-like than the My Book series, is it?

It’s dimensions aren’t exactly close to those of a real book. Sure, books can be and have been made in the same shape and size as the W-31, but commonly, books are more vertical than horizontal. You know, they’re more book-like.

Inside this guy you get some SATA-hard-drive goodness with a USB 2.0 port on the outside. Of course, both of these cables sticking out of your “book” might be a tip off that they aren’t actual literary works. You know, if the other glaring clues don’t tip you off first.

Available in Korea, at least for the time being, these run in size from 320 gigs right up to the 1 terabyte model. Price-wise they fluctuate, as well, starting at about $120 and ending at around $310 (your exchange rate may vary).

Let’s hope that they end up with a more catchy name when and if they ever make it to the Western World than the “Wizplat W-31.”
