There are so many factors that go into capturing the perfect moment on camera that more often than not those moments pass us by. So, how can you eliminate some of the hassle and challenge of photography? Well, I suspect the folks over at Joby asked themselves just that question when they designed the nifty Gorillapod; the camera tripod with bendable limbs that can be fixed to almost any surface.
Each leg of the Gorillapod is made up of 30 or more (depending on the size you purchase, there are 3 in total) fully articulating ball-and-socket joints that allow you to bend and twist them into any position. With three legs to establish positioning, the Gorillapod makes your camera one versatile device. In fact, you may find yourself establishing shots you never thought possible before, since the camera can be positioned just about anywhere. There is also an added degree of safety that the Gorillapod offers over traditional tripods in that it firmly grips surfaces and can even be fully wrapped about poles and tress, assuming they are narrow enough. One photo on the Joby website even shows a man stabilizing his SLR on the guard rail of a cruise ship.
As mentioned earlier, the Gorillapod comes in several sizes; the Original, the SLR, and the SLR-ZOOM. The Original is designed for standard digital cameras and the SLR version is, you guessed it, for the larger SLR models. The SLR ZOOM supports SLR’s with an attached lens that would otherwise destabilize the pod.
The three models range in price from $21.95 (Original), $39.95 (SLR), $49.95 (SLR-ZOOM) and now come in a variety of colors.
